Fitness and health begin with clean habits, and the mouth is a great starter at that. In many countries and cultures, dental health is the torchbearer of health rituals, and there is no argument about that. If we remember correctly, dental cleanliness was our first introduction to hygiene. Even today many of us begin our day with dental care. Let’s understand what is wrong and right about the dental care rituals we have been following for generations and get wiser about it.

As an ode to our teeth, let’s understand more to uplift our dental care rituals:

  1. Brushing the right way:
  1. Floss the bad breath away:
  1. Care to shower your mouth with Mouthwash :
  1. Gargling: You can create a tsunami effect in your mouth by swishing warm salt water in all corners and flooding the bad bacteria out. It does a good trick at removing remaining food particles stuck between the teeth. Gargling with warm salted water neutralizes the environment and prevents building up of plaque and bad breath.
  1. Oil pulling: An ancient remedy to our rescue again. Oil pulling is about swishing one tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth for around 15 to 20 minutes and the after-effects are close to magic. Celebrities and models swear by this technique for their dental and overall well being. All the toxins from the teeth are removed and oral health is taken from 40% to a full 90%.
  2. Tongue cleaning: The muscle called tongue is very much part of your dental health and you will be surprised at the number of bacteria that build upon its surface and edges. The front area of the tongue cleans itself but the back and edges need to be scrapped using a tongue cleaner. Regular tongue cleaning guarantees less bacterial accumulation, which in turn ensures no bad breath.
  1. Limit the sugar and smokes: Cigarettes and sugary drinks destroy the enamel of the teeth. They cause cavities, discoloration of the teeth, and even oral cancer, if one is a chain smoker.
  2. Other Tips: Drink more water, as water also makes sure that the mouth isn’t dry anymore as dry mouth equals bad breath. Avoid eating too hard food, chew your food properly & gently, and eat more calcium dense foods.

We usually tend to ignore these basic routines in the hustle-bustle of our daily lives, but if done regularly they will definitely help keep the dental ailments away. Do remember, early recognition and treatment of issues with your gums, teeth and mouth can help guarantee a lifetime of good oral wellbeing.
